We checked out of our La Quinta Inn early monday morning and decided to head east to the town of Klamath Falls. This is a spectacular drive through the Cascades and the weather can be dicey, at best, and often dangerous. We stopped first at the McCredie hot springs, located a few yards south of the highway, along the banks of Salt Creek. The hot springs are located within a few miles of Oakridge, Oregon, along highway 58.
A few miles further up the road is Salt Creek Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Oregon. On this day, the normal public access was blocked by snow. I remembered from my earlier travels with Maggie that there was an un-authorized back-way off of highway 58. We turned the car around and I found the pull-off by the side of the road. I stayed with Jim while Ernie hiked in to try to view the falls. He found them. Salt Creek Falls are about 285 feet high and are reported to be the second-highest falls in the state. When I saw them about a year ago, they were frozen. Pretty spectacular. Photo from Ernie.
